100 Days Smarter

It's about time we made it to the 100th day of school! In years past, we got there at the beginning of February. As early as February 3! This year, not until the 25. The kids were more excited about it this year than any other because they had to wait so long!

We did our annual Hershey Kiss scavenger hunt. Write the numbers 1-100 on yard sale price dots:

Stick them to the bottom of 100 Hershey Kisses:

And hide them around the room! (Make sure you hide 5-6 in really hard places and write those numbers down so when a kid claims to have found them you can ask where... this prevents random coloring of numbers that haven't been found.)

Then give students a hundreds chart and have them highlight the kisses they find.

It's a really fun way to work on numeral recognition and helps students find patterns in the number chart.

It also helps clear up confusion between similar numbers. "Miss Francis, you have two 89's!"

We also made our 100th day necklace, counting and stringing 100 Fruit Loops.

One of my favorite activities is giving the students die-cuts of 1, 0, 0 to see what they create.  This year's class was by far the most creative!

A person in a wheelchair!

And of course the brilliant projects made at home with 100 items of any kind.
Porcupine with 100 toothpicks

A house with 100 doors... and 100 stickers behind the doors

100 rose petals for (inside the card) "the 100% best teacher!"

100 pennies in a bank

100 sugar cubes to make a Super Mario-inspired pyramid
