Bats and Magnets

Hello all! This past week, we focused on the letter B in language arts. Each day, we read a story or watched a brief video on bats and added fun facts in our bat books. Students copied the picture and sentence. If you notice that your child didn't copy the sentence correctly, talk with him/her about why this happened. Were they playing? Was it difficult for them to see? (I put the sentence in two locations in the room, so this shouldn't be an issue, but perhaps it is.) Or is it just hard for them to copy a sentence? If the problem is the latter, work on this at home by writing a sentence and having your child copy it. They should have the same capitalization, punctuation and spacing that you use.

Ask your child what his or her favorite fact about bats is!

In science, we introduced magnets! Children got to explore with magnets and write about what they discovered in their Magnet Book.

Magnets come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

Magnets have two poles. One north and one south.

Opposite poles attract. Like poles repel.

Magnets stick to metal.

We will continue to explore with magnets this week, discussing strength of magnets as well. We will also be focusing on the letter N, past and present (Thanksgiving) and estimation. We started a daily guessing jar to get better at our estimation skills. We've got some good guessers this year! Hannah has guessed the correct number both times! Way to go!

I hope that you and your family are enjoying the beautiful (albeit random) warm weather this weekend!

Happy Veteran's Day!

Thank you to all of our veterans and the families that support them!!!!!
